About the role

Senior Data Engineer on the Engineering team with a focus on data development. Responsible for building and maintaining Beam's data platform, infrastructure, and processes that power internal and external BI. Data platform processes >7TB of data every 90 minutes and supports analytics for partners and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan new platform data solutions through collaboration with Head of Engineering, Engineering and product teams, and internal stakeholders using RFC and Tech Spec documents
  • Collaborate with peers to execute and implement high-quality software
  • Collaborate with peers to assist in planning and execution of new software features, focusing on data platform requirements
  • Drive the execution of work from spec to delivery through the SDLC
  • Grow skillset and share knowledge via code reviews, pair programming, 1-1 conversations, and team trainings
  • Develop subject matter expertise in Beam data ecosystem and reporting platform supporting Client Strategy, Business Operations, and partners
  • Balance tech debt with practicality while designing solutions
  • Gain knowledge of nonprofit giving and e-commerce enablement spaces
  • Foster team culture around Beam values (community, inclusivity, care, accountability, support)
  • Strive for continuous improvement through goal setting and feedback

Qualifications

  • 4+ years as a Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer with Python and SQL, or 5+ years as a Software Engineer using Python and SQL in a predominantly Python codebase
  • Experience on production-level data systems in a collaborative team
  • Proficient with Python and SQL
  • Proficient with PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Apache Airflow
  • Experience using a BI tool like Tableau
  • Familiar with observability, performance optimization, CI, automated testing, and cloud infrastructure
  • Familiar with distributed computing, data warehouse and data lake storage patterns
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical projects to non-technical stakeholders
