About the role
Staff Software Engineer to own AI agent surfaces that program industrial robots through conversation and the vertical applications built around it. Focus on turning an LLM-powered demo into a production-ready product across multiple verticals (e.g., palletizing, welding, machine tending) with a founding-team context.
Responsibilities
- Define the Future: Own the long-term product and technical vision for the AI agent and vertical applications, including scale, security, and product needs for LLM-powered robot programming.
- Design the Experience: Shape how programming a robot through conversation should feel, including interactions, defaults, and guardrails.
- Decouple and Scale: Create stable interfaces between the agent and robot platform APIs so agent capabilities grow with the platform.
- Standard Setter: Establish engineering standards for latency, token budgets, and release evaluation gates.
- Product Ownership: Operate as part-PM, engage with customers/operators, own roadmap and outcomes.
- Build the Verticals: Ship vertical applications with the agent for palletizing, welding, and machine tending.
- Drive the Program: Lead the agent’s path from demo to release across teams, turning fast asks into testable requirements.
- Hands-on Delivery: Own production hardening of the TypeScript/Node stack, including reliability, key management, offline modes, and release QA.
- Systemic Quality: Build evaluation discipline with datasets, CI gates, and model-graded scoring.
- Technical Multiplier: Mentor engineers and contribute to team quality.
- Influence & Accountability: Establish trusted metrics for agent quality across leadership, product, and customers.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on AI work (shipping an LLM-powered product, building model evaluation systems, or production AI/ML data work).
- Fluency in agent loops, tool calling, prompt/context management, structured output, model selection and fallbacks, and token/latency economics.
- Experience building eval datasets, harnesses, or regression gates for nondeterministic systems.
- Product thinking with direct user engagement and impact on operational/domain-heavy users (manufacturing, logistics, field operations) a plus.
- Design sensibility with prototype-driven UX and collaboration with design.
- Ability to operate in ambitious, fast-changing environments.
- Fluency in TypeScript/Node.js; experience with React, Python, C++, Kubernetes considered a plus.
