About the role

Senior R&D software engineer focused on VLSI physical design algorithms, blending software and hardware aspects to optimize timing, power, and area for NVIDIA's high-capacity design tools and AI hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Invent new optimization engines that fuse co-optimization of legalization and sizing to improve chip frequency and reduce power across internal tools.
  • Improve algorithms (in C++) for gate-level sizing, buffering, useful clock skew, cell legalization, power minimization, ECO routing, and incremental parasitic extraction.
  • Own the process from discovery of optimization opportunities to developing solutions and deploying them inside design teams.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, PhD or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science
  • 6+ years in VLSI algorithms development using C++
  • Strong understanding of VLSI timing optimization and related concepts (cell libraries, interconnect models, crosstalk, glitches, IR drop, timing constraints, corners, congestion)
  • Familiarity with design implementation tools such as ICC2, Innovus, PrimeTime, Tempus, and StarRC and design flows written in Perl, Tcl, and Python
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
