About the role

Senior hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, building, and validating the Isolated Recovery Environment and driving cloud resilience, recovery automation, and IaC standards across Xometry's AWS environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own Our Recovery Architecture — Design and build the Isolated Recovery Environment in a hardened AWS account with immutable vaults; threat model cloud-native attack patterns; validate and improve backup configurations for recoverability.
  • Standardize and Automate Infrastructure — Lead transition to 100% Infrastructure as Code using Terraform; build automated recovery workflows to tear down and bootstrap hardened environments; write executable recovery playbooks that are tested, versioned, and runnable.
  • Validate, Test, and Lead Exercises — Develop automated scripts (Python or Go) to smoke test recovered data; lead regular hands-on recovery drills and manage after-action improvements.
  • Drive Engineering Standards — act as resilience authority, influence high-availability decisions, partner with SRE for multi-region deployments, champion IaC and immutable infrastructure across teams.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in complex cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with at least 3 years in AWS
  • EKS/Kubernetes experience is a strong plus
  • Strong Terraform skills with ability to modularize environments
  • Hands-on familiarity with Secure Vault pattern in a restricted AWS account
  • Advanced shell scripting and proficiency in Python or Go
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling (Scalr, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)
  • Proven ability to engineer and automate end-to-end restoration workflows
