About the role

Senior engineer to help harden and scale Mercor’s payments platform, building the financial backbone to support rapid growth and scale payments infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Automating payout orchestration (no more human-triggered scripts)
  • Building a real operational ledger (immutable, auditable, boringly correct)
  • Designing settlement ingestion + reconciliation pipelines
  • Improving observability across payout → processor → bank flows
  • Eliminating recurring payment bugs at the root cause
  • Reducing manual treasury overhead
  • Abstracting processor dependencies so we’re not locked in

Qualifications

  • Experience & Domain Expertise: 6+ years in building scalable backend systems, with preference for payments/fintech/financial infrastructure
  • Must Haves: 1. Backend Expertise: 3+ years of industry experience in backend/platform engineering with ownership of production systems 2. Payment Infrastructure Expertise: Experience integrating with third-party payment gateways (e.g., Stripe, Adyen) and/or direct banking APIs 3. Compliance and Security: Understanding of financial regulations including PCI-DSS and secure handling/encryption of sensitive data
  • Technical Proficiency: 3+ years building around: 1. MySQL or PostgreSQL (transactional databases) 2. Go, Rust, or C++ (compiled languages) 3. Message queues or streaming platforms (RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka) 4. Distributed systems frameworks like Temporal, Kubernetes (k8s) Operational Excellence: Proven ability to operate production systems under significant load with strong observability and reliable payment agents
