About the role

Staff Engineer role at Acceldata focusing on leading development of a data platform built on Apache open-source technologies, contributing as an Apache committer, designing and optimizing distributed data systems, and engaging with the open-source community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of a data platform built on Apache open-source technologies.
  • Design, implement, and optimize distributed data systems.
  • Actively contribute to the open-source community as an Apache committer, submit patches, and review contributions.
  • Drive the technical direction of the project and review functionality, security, and reliability.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to address technical challenges and ensure system scalability and performance.

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4-5 years actively contributing to open-source projects, ideally within the Apache ecosystem.
  • Deep knowledge of one or more Apache projects (e.g., Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, Hive, Flink) and their underlying architecture.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Scala, or Go.
  • Experience deploying and managing open-source solutions in cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premise environments.
  • Experience leading technical discussions, architecture improvements, and mentoring.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong coding, debugging, and troubleshooting skills; ability to reproduce issues from descriptions and develop scalable solutions.
  • Ability to guide teams to implement systems and subsystems translating business requirements into designs.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and drive improvements in the ecosystem.
