About the role

Research Scientists in the Ai2 Robotics Team will develop and investigate core research problems in foundation models for robotics, experiment with large-scale simulation tools and robots, mentor and collaborate, and contribute to open-source methods, data sets, benchmarks, and models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and investigate core research problems in foundation models for robotics
  • Experiment with large-scale simulation tools and real-world robots
  • Lead projects and mentor interns/pre-doctoral candidates
  • Author and present scientific papers
  • Collaborate with researchers from other organizations and Ai2 teams
  • Engage in open-source research and contribute to open datasets, benchmarks, and models
  • Publish in high-profile conferences and journals (e.g., CoRL, ICRA, RSS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML)
  • Mentor and supervise interns and students
  • Collaborate with UW and other external researchers

Qualifications

  • PhD-level foundation in robot manipulation, planning and control, RL and imitation learning, real world robot systems, simulation environments and sim2real, or world models and foundation models
  • Strong publication record in AI-related areas (e.g., CoRL, ICRA, RSS, CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML)
  • Contributions to research communities (e.g., workshop organization, tutorials) are a plus
  • Strong software engineering skills with experience on real robot systems and/or deep learning frameworks
  • Optional: experience in large-scale multi-node training, training dynamics, efficiency, data curation, multimodal model debugging, post-training methods
  • Optional: contributions to open-source research libraries
