About the role

Staff Software Engineer focused on Capacity Modeling to translate demand forecasts into capacity plans and manage infrastructure resources across regions and environments.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with critical, business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborating across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are well understood and managed.
  • Acting as a force-multiplier through definition and advocacy of technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Owning the team’s operations and availability by ensuring proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting for on-call readiness.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
  • Helping develop talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience supporting scale up and down of large-scale sales events (e.g., Prime Day, Black Friday/Cyber Monday).
  • Experience tuning autoscaling, CPU/memory, and multi-threading for compute workloads.
  • Experience delivering major features or deprecating functionality through technical and execution planning; writing high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to move from low-level language idioms to understanding architecture of large systems.
  • Proven ability to gather and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers to drive growth and impact.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
