About the role

Lead NVIDIA's storage strategy for AI Cloud across Neocloud Provider and Cloud Service Provider ecosystems. Architect high-performance storage (file, object, block) at exabyte scale, drive open-source strategy, and mentor senior engineers while collaborating across product lines and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the multi-year technical plan for AI Cloud Storage expansion across NCPs — determine the reference architecture, capabilities, performance and durability SLOs, qualification methodology, and roadmap for high-performance file, object, and block storage that each NCP must offer to qualify for NVIDIA GPU allocation.
  • Serve as the chief storage architect with hands-on involvement. Lead reviews of storage builds, investigate root causes of production problems, develop prototype reference implementations, and make final technical decisions on NCP storage deliveries using measurable SLOs.
  • Define the standard for production-ready storage in NCP, including durability and availability SLOs measured in 9s; ensure efficiency per TiB, observability, blast-radius containment, and reduced toil.
  • Develop architectural direction with collaborators in training, inference, and accelerated computing; coordinate with SRE, operations, networking, security; align with external cloud providers and storage vendors.
  • Develop the open-source path forward for AI storage; establish a GitHub-first, security-first open-source strategy; formalize APIs, SDKs, and protocols for partners and industry integration.
  • Lead an engineering culture centered on AI tools; demonstrate 10x engineering, distribute patterns and evaluation harnesses across the storage organization.
  • Partner with peer storage architects to tackle long-term challenges; promote automation for infrastructure management; establish root-cause analysis and corrective action discipline; design storage for next-gen workloads and cross-DC data management.
  • Mentor and develop senior engineers; represent NVIDIA in standards bodies and open-source communities; engage with industry forums.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 18+ years of practical engineering experience in storage technology, including high-performance parallel file systems (Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, WEKA, VAST, BeeGFS, DAOS or equivalent) at multi-petabyte scale; strong in object storage (S3/Swift-class) and block storage (NVMe-oF, NVMesh, iSCSI).
  • Track record of crafting/managing exabyte-scale storage platforms for AI training, HPC, video, or hyperscale data lakes; responsible for durability, availability, and performance SLOs (9s).
  • Ability to set technical strategy across business units; multi-year storage architectures adopted broadly; measurable outcomes (GPU utility lift, cost per PB, incident reduction).
  • Hands-on engineering: write/review production code; read Lustre, NFS, kernel, NVMe-oF, SPDK; run scale tests and recovery drills personally.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one systems language (C, C++, Rust, or Go) and Python; comfortable with Linux kernel storage and networking stacks (block layer, RDMA/ RoCE/ InfiniBand, NVMe, VFS, multipath).
  • Experience with AI coding/tools usage; ability to describe how AI tooling accelerates development, debugging, validation, and operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to align executives, orgs, vendors, and customers around technical trade-offs.
  • Comfort operating in a 24/7 production environment with security-first mindset.
