About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates AWS global infrastructure including data centers, power, cooling, and related systems. The Commissioning Engineer (CxE) oversees testing and validation of electrical and mechanical infrastructure in AWS data centers, coordinating with vendors and internal teams to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide testing and validation oversight of AWS data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure
  • Review design documents and equipment submittals
  • Lead Factory Witness Testing (FWT)
  • Manage third-party commissioning vendors for onsite pre-functional, functional, and integrated system testing
  • Own project successes, deep dive into technical issues, and address schedule impacts onsite
  • Share lessons learned to drive team growth and program improvements
  • Contribute multi-discipline input into scheduling, test script development, design, and project planning
  • Continuously audit CX vendors' activities for environmental, quality, and safety compliance
  • Regularly report commissioning progress and metrics to Regional Commissioning Manager
  • Lead several projects simultaneously to achieve milestones and deliver data center capacity while managing budget
  • Coordinate with AWS engineering, capacity delivery, operations, and contractor teams to prioritize tasks and resolve issues
  • Escalate project turnover risks to stakeholders
  • Communicate lessons learned at project completion and participate in program-improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Develop and review commissioning documentation (test plans, scripts, reports) for accuracy with design requirements
