About the role

AWS Utility Computing (UC) team focuses on Compute, Database, Storage, Iot, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers requiring specialized security solutions. The role involves helping customers migrate, scale, and shard high-volume transactional databases, contributing to the Aurora managed database service, and working closely with developers, product managers, and SDEs throughout the full product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with customers to understand challenges, solve issues during escalations, and teach best practices.
  • Act as the voice of the customer to bring learnings into the engineering process for feature design and end-to-end test scenarios.
  • Actively drive feature enhancements, permanently resolve root causes of issues, and improve performance of the managed database service.
  • Contribute to automation solutions to improve operational efficiency of the database service.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for databases, collaborating with development, support, field teams, and customers.
  • Interact with the open-source community via forums, conferences, and code submissions.

Qualifications

  • 5+ knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making
  • 5+ years of relational database technology experience (such as Redshift, Oracle, MySQL or MS SQL)
  • 5+ years of experience troubleshooting skills at all levels (application to network to host)
  • 3+ years of experience in operations of highly available and scalable internet systems with a large customer base
  • 3+ years knowledge of primary AWS services (EC2, ELB, RDS, VPC, Route53, S3)
