About the role

Senior Software Engineer role on the Foundations team focused on improving reliability, performance, and scalability of Peregrine’s data platform, including data ingestion, processing, and enrichment pipelines, storage, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own well-scoped, meaningful projects from design to production to improve reliability and performance of Peregrine's data platform
  • Work within datastores, orchestrated data pipelines, and the connection, authorization, and notification layers
  • Extend existing architectural patterns and propose new ones; contribute to core datastore storage format rewrite and rollout
  • Upgrade major framework versions in heavily used services without regressions
  • Improve database connection-pooling to reduce outage risk
  • Build out a new piece of the platform's authorization system
  • Reduce data-processing backlog latency from hours to under a second
  • Scale and tune search infrastructure to handle data growth
  • Participate in incident response and root-cause production issues

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience with distributed systems or data-intensive services (data pipelines, relational and search datastores, message queues)
  • Experience taking projects from design through production rollout
  • Experience shipping/iterating production-grade software, in professional or open-source contexts
  • Ability to write robust, well-tested, well-designed code frequently deployed to users
  • Comfort navigating and contributing to large, established codebases
  • Comfort participating in incident response and resolving recurring failure patterns
  • Located in the San Francisco or New York area and open to working in office
