About the role

AI Engineer focused on building and shipping an AI SRE agent, improving agent behavior, live surface delivery, and stability at scale within Traversal's AI systems.

Responsibilities

  • Agent Development: Build AI agents with human-centered UX and capabilities like long-horizon work, proactiveness, resilience, readability, and evidence citation.
  • User Experience: Innovate and drive evolution of AI UX/UI design, iterating based on user feedback to improve usability.
  • Harness and Context Engineering: Design tool interfaces, context assembly, and decision logic for real incidents.
  • Evaluation: Build eval harnesses and offline datasets to validate agent changes.
  • Live Delivery: Design and implement streaming, orchestration, and API layers carrying agent output into Slack and the product in real time.
  • Data and Infrastructure: Own storage, retrieval, and processing across PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, and S3 for large-scale time-series/topological data.
  • Product Impact: Translate agent capability into features reducing cognitive load for on-call engineers, iterating from user feedback.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with focus on full-stack or backend systems.
  • Hands-on experience with agentic AI systems or LLM-powered products, including tool use, context management, and failure modes.
  • Strong experience with Python and web frameworks such as FastAPI.
  • Comfort working in a React and TypeScript codebase, able to ship a feature end to end without frontend dependency.
  • Experience deploying applications on AWS, using ECS or Kubernetes, Postgres, and S3.
  • Proven ability to lead in fast-paced startup environments with limited resources and shifting priorities.
