About the role

Technical Program Manager role within Cohere's Generative Modeling organization focusing on building and scaling ML foundations and cross-functional programs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, improve, and scale foundational processes that allow the Generative Modeling teams to execute better, faster, and more predictably
  • Scale the operational capacity and effectiveness of the Modeling TPM team in collaboration with the Modeling TPM lead
  • Flexibly adapt to long-horizon and short-term programs with company-wide impact
  • Partner with leaders inside and outside of Modeling on efforts to design, train and improve core generative models
  • Lead cross-functional, oftentimes company-wide programs and strategic initiatives with Product, Engineering, Legal, Platform, Infra, Policy, and Finance
  • Operate as an organizational expert in improving engineering execution rigor and operations while contributing to long-term strategic planning
  • Map dependencies and risks; ensure cross-functional execution and communicate status to stakeholders and senior management
  • Own and enable a robust communication flow of priorities, ideas, and knowledge within and beyond the Modeling organization
  • Respond quickly to program-level changes, clarify scope, and manage resource needs in response to evolving priorities

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years as a Technical Program Manager
  • 5+ years of experience working directly on AI/ML (strong preference for foundation models)
  • In-depth knowledge of machine learning, NLP & Large Language Models; bonus for Multimodal AI
  • Experience in chaotic, fast-paced, low-structure environments; pragmatic with tactical and strategic capabilities
  • Hands-on understanding of AI/ML project/program management challenges vs traditional software PM
  • Experience coordinating with Finance on reporting, Policy on regulatory matters; broad experience beyond ML PM is a plus
  • Optional: technical hands-on experience with ML problems and collaborating with researchers
