About the role

Principal Software Engineer responsible for leading a feature delivery team on the Huntress SIEM Platform, focusing on design, development, and high-quality release of features for automated detection and human-powered threat hunting. Drives technical vision, cross-team collaboration, and AI-enabled engineering efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery, product quality, and up-time of complex mission-critical features/systems
  • Impact objectives and initiatives that span across departments
  • Lead technical decisions with company-wide impact
  • Evolve our collective understanding of our technical domain
  • Define long-term strategic technical goals and initiatives
  • Effectively communicate strategic technical vision and set an example for the organization
  • Work with the team engineering manager to ensure technical expectations and strategy are met
  • Communicate critical trade-offs on technical approaches across the platform
  • Collaborate with team engineering manager, product manager, security research, platform, and architect on strategic initiatives and designs
  • Develop and enforce best practices for the team and department
  • Design and optimize workflows bridging traditional development and AI-assisted engineering
  • Build and evolve AI tooling and usage in daily development workflows
  • Experience using AI coding agents to accelerate development
  • Engage with customers as necessary
  • Contribute to and improve test frameworks and approaches
  • Develop cross-product understanding of features and architecture
  • Own and drive performance impact of team/department solutions and the platform suite
  • Lead and develop high-quality, scalable software, designs, and architecture; set standards for excellence
  • Improve visibility into software systems at scale (monitoring/alerting)
  • Focus on full life cycle of systems including evolution, configuration, and risk management
  • Ensure code quality and test coverage via reviews and security checks
  • Lead estimates and ownership of timely delivery
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster professional growth
  • Lead by example and maintain positive team dynamic

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience developing complex software products
  • 8+ years of programming in Ruby on Rails
  • 8+ years of large-scale database experience
  • BS in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience with modern data storage and query systems for high-volume analytics
  • Experience in Agile or Scrum environments
  • Experience with JavaScript and CSS
  • Experience reviewing code, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting
  • Deep understanding of ActiveRecord (Rails)
  • Excellent technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to grasp new tools and technologies quickly
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, often independently
  • Ability to distill complex topics for non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work cross-functionally between multiple teams
  • Passion for technology, motivation, and responsibility for high-quality software features
  • Ability to build strong relationships with product, development teams, leadership, and stakeholders
