About the role

Senior Software Engineer to work on the Streaming Platform Client at Datadog, focusing on Rust client libraries (producers and consumers) with bindings for Java, Go, and Python. Role spans control plane, client libraries, and data plane, with emphasis on performance, reliability, and developer experience in a hybrid, Europe/US distributed team.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement resilient interactions between client libraries and the control plane.
  • Optimize high-throughput, low-level streaming library for performance and efficiency.
  • Champion developer experience through documentation, troubleshooting, and support for a wide user base.
  • Lead high-stakes technical projects with end-to-end accountability for delivery and quality.
  • Collaborate with partner teams on cross-scope projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns to foster technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Self-starter who experiments methodically and iterates rapidly.
  • Finisher who sees projects through to completion, not just shipping code.
  • Thrives in collaborative, blameless culture and mentors peers.
  • Effective communicator, able to gather requirements and lead technical initiatives.
  • Strong proficiency in low-level languages (ideally Rust).
  • Passion for deep-dive investigations, performance optimization, and debugging complex systems.
  • Curious about AI and how to leverage it in development workflow.
