About the role

Builds the next cloud platform for running AI software, focusing on distributed systems, sandbox orchestration, kernel-level observability, and high-performance multi-tenant infrastructure for AI agents.

Responsibilities

  • Building a distributed system for millions and billions of AI agents running on E2B
  • Building an orchestrator for placing sandboxes in the right nodes
  • Adding support for sandbox live migrations
  • Making sure our self-hosting DX is as smooth as possible (we’re open-source)
  • Not letting our sandboxes take more than 200ms to start (starting with the user hitting enter)
  • Scaling to millions and later billions of sandboxes running at the same time
  • Building an observability stack starting at the kernel level of virtual machines

Qualifications

  • 5+ years building distributed systems - operated infrastructure at serious scale (100K+ RPS, multi-region, PB-scale data) and understands trade-offs between consistency, availability, and partition tolerance
  • Deep Linux internals expertise – comfortable at kernel level, proficient with eBPF, CPU scheduling, memory management, knowledge of cgroups v1 vs v2
  • VM hypervisor experience – worked with Firecracker, QEMU, KVM or similar; understands virtio, hypercalls, nested virtualization trade-offs
  • Systems programming skills – proficient in Go, Rust, or C/C++, experienced with performance-critical code, lock-free data structures, memory-mapped files, or io_uring
  • Production orchestration experience – built or operated Kubernetes, Nomad, or custom orchestrators; understands bin-packing, resource scheduling, noisy neighbor problems
  • Performance obsession – understands p99 latency, CPU caches, memory locality, profiled under load
  • Networking expertise – strong in L4/L7 load balancing, network namespaces, iptables/nftables, multi-tenant network isolation
  • Open source mindset – comfortable with public code/infrastructure, contributes to discussions and documentation
