About the role

Team Lead to join Apify's Universe team to build and scale Actors powering AI use cases, contribute to Crawlee, lead a growing cross-functional team, and shape technical direction while staying hands-on.

Responsibilities

  • Building and scaling Website Content Crawler and other core Actors that crawl websites under real-world load, turning data into clean text, Markdown, and structured data for AI models, vector databases, and RAG pipelines.
  • Working in a small, cross-functional team and eventually leading the team.
  • Contributing to Crawlee and stepping into product engineering for platform-level work when needed.
  • Writing clean, elegant code and maintaining quality through reviews and refactoring.
  • Reverse-engineering how websites work and designing developer-friendly APIs.
  • Using AI as a core part of the job and building AI-powered tools; Claude Code license provided.
  • Leading the Universe team, balancing hands-on coding with leadership responsibilities.
  • Tracking team growth and evolution (18+ people as of May 2025) and continuing to scale.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading a team or larger projects (formal or informal) with a track record of helping others succeed
  • Strong JavaScript and TypeScript (Node.js) skills; solid web tech knowledge
  • At least 2 years of professional or open-source experience on a non-trivial team-based project
  • Commitment to code quality, readability, and refactoring
  • Experience with AI tools in work context and understanding their impact
  • Problem-solving mindset with a willingness to learn in web scraping and leadership
  • Systems thinking: ability to design architecture, weigh trade-offs, and connect projects into a coherent product
  • Clear English communication (written and spoken)
