About the role

The Behavior AI team builds AI-based anomaly detection for Datadog's security products, developing small, cost-efficient models for high-throughput stream processing that can run on production traffic and be applied across multiple security products.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build custom mid-size models for high-throughput stream processing, and train them at scale.
  • Optimize these models from start to finish, across mathematics and systems, often via mathematical reformulations to fit hardware/software constraints.
  • Build training data pipelines from raw streams to training-ready datasets.
  • Collaborate with engineering to integrate models into production, focusing on GPU utilization, latency, and cost per record on live traffic.
  • Plan the roadmap of model and system improvements based on product understanding and user impact.
  • Build an agentic layer on top of the models to analyze, validate, and act on their outputs.
  • Build lightweight interpretability tools to explain model behavior to relyants.
  • Maintain and monitor models, services, and infrastructure, and participate in on-call rotations.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience training and fine-tuning models at scale and deploying them into production with throughput and cost constraints.
  • Working knowledge of GPUs and ability to optimize models within real hardware constraints.
  • Strong applied mathematics fundamentals and ability to apply them to model design and optimization.
  • Passion for applied mathematics, software design, and implementation; ability to build data pipelines and production code.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas and trade-offs to engineers and product partners; let product understanding guide what you build next.
  • Bonus: experience with efficient sequence architectures, model interpretability, or large-scale streaming systems.
