About the role
Senior CFD Engineer with plasma physics expertise focused on semiconductor manufacturing, plasma etching, deposition, and surface processing. Builds high-fidelity computational models, collaborates with data science and ML teams, and often works on-site with customers to drive engineering decisions.
Responsibilities
- Building and owning computational plasma models for semiconductor manufacturing processes, including plasma etching, CVD/ALD deposition, and ion-driven surface interactions
- Working directly with semiconductor customers—often on-site—to scope engineering challenges, design modelling strategies, and present results that drive process decisions
- Selecting and applying the right simulation tools and fidelity level for each problem (e.g. COMSOL, HPEM, VizGlow, CFD-ACE+) and validating outputs against experimental or industrial data
- Collaborating with PhysicsX Data Scientists and ML Engineers to integrate simulation work into AI-powered workflows
- Operating independently on open-ended, highly specialised problems—scoping, executing, and delivering with minimal oversight
- Applying industry experience ideally within or directly supporting the semiconductor manufacturing industry
- Proficiency in Python (or similar) for workflow automation, data handling, and integration with simulation tools
- Mentoring junior colleagues and contributing to a culture of collaboration and growth
- Traveling globally (North America, Europe, Asia, Oceania) for an average of 3-4 weeks per quarter to work on-site with customers
- Role evolution opportunities toward individual contributor or technical lead, owning increasingly complex semiconductor plasma projects
Qualifications
- Deep expertise in plasma physics applied to semiconductor manufacturing (plasma etching, deposition, surface processing)
- Strong background in computational plasma modeling (plasma chemistry, sheath dynamics, ion energy distribution, plasma-surface interactions)
- Experience engaging with customers, often on-site, and presenting results to drive decisions
- Proficiency in Python (or similar) for workflow automation and data handling
- Ability to work independently on highly specialised problems and mentor others
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (data scientists, ML engineers)
- Industry experience in or supporting semiconductor manufacturing preferred
- Willingness to travel globally (3-4 weeks per quarter) and hybrid work model familiarity
