About the role

Senior Backend Engineer role focused on Affirm’s Identity platform outside North America, shaping technical direction, delivering scalable distributed systems, and improving operational health for international markets.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team and guiding engineers through ambiguity
  • Collaborating with product management, design & analytics to ideate and make trade-off decisions
  • Proactively identifying and solving project, process, technology, or business issues
  • Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts, monitoring metrics, and participating in on-call efforts
  • Setting or improving code review and design standards, promoting quality and ownership beyond the team
  • Developing talent through feedback, mentorship, and leading by example
  • Coding in Kotlin and Python, investigating production issues, and contributing to foundational systems for global growth

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin
  • Experience building highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes
  • Experience defining technical plans for delivering significant features or system components with elegant, simple, extensible design
  • Proficiency in making significant changes to large code bases and building safe tooling and practices
  • Proactive growth mindset with seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with a global engineering team
