About the role

Senior Software Engineer role focused on the platform and applications layer of Affirm's data infrastructure, building, operating, and extending systems that enable data workloads at scale with emphasis on reliability, self-service, governance, and next-gen platform tooling including semantic layer and agentic data tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate core platform capabilities: design and implement platform features for data applications at scale (provisioning, deploy pipelines, access control, service lifecycle management, reliability tooling).
  • Develop integrations: CI/CD pipelines, identity and secrets management, external APIs, and event-driven hooks to provide secure, reliable, self-service access to tools.
  • Strengthen data access and governance: RBAC, managed-access schemas, dynamic data masking, secure views, cross-database grants.
  • Automate toil and unlock self-service: automate access provisioning, data pipeline failures, service health management, secrets management.
  • Improve observability and incident response: telemetry, alerting, log infrastructure, runbooks, operational patterns.
  • Support platform operations: on-call coverage, triage production incidents, platform maintenance with engineers and workflows in mind.
  • Contribute to the emerging platform roadmap: semantic layer infrastructure, agentic application patterns, AI-native data tooling.
  • Raise the engineering bar: high standards in code review, design, operational readiness, and incident follow-through.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience operating a cloud analytical data platform (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or similar) including access control, data masking and governance, compute management, and cost optimization.
  • Experience building and operating containerized applications; Docker image management, CI/CD pipeline design, deployment automation, and production rollout practices.
  • Experience building internal platforms, developer tooling, or self-service infrastructure that improves developer productivity.
  • Experience building system integrations (REST APIs, OAuth/OIDC, webhook ingestion, secrets management, egress networking, identity/SSO in managed cloud).
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL for building reliable, maintainable platform services.
  • Strong operational instincts: instrumentation, runbooks, on-call ownership, root cause analysis and durable fixes.
  • Familiarity with semantic layer design, LLM-integrated workflows, and agentic data tools; interest in AI-native tooling.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration across teams (application, security, infrastructure, platform users).
  • Equivalent practical experience or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
