About the role

Senior Backend Engineer role focused on Repayment Scheduling at Affirm. Remote in Poland, part of a Europe-based backend team delivering scalable payment automation systems with up to $40B annual payments.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team and leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems
  • Supporting peers and stakeholders across the product lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, ideating, articulating technical constraints, and weighing risks and trade-offs
  • Proactively identifying project, process, technology or business issues and leading in solving them
  • Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts by creating/monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards and advocating beyond the team
  • Helping develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin
  • Experience developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with elegant, simple, extensible design
  • Proficiency in making significant changes in a large code base with tools/practices for safe evolution
  • Experience taking ownership of personal growth and seeking feedback
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team
