About the role

Remote Canada role implementing backend systems for a regulated ledger platform, focusing on scalable, fault-tolerant financial systems and collaboration across product, design, and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with critical, business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborating across product development lifecycle with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood and managed.
  • Acting as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Owning team operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting to support on-call efforts.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
  • Developing talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
  • Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or adjacent domains where data accuracy and system reliability are critical.
  • Experience delivering major features, system components or deprecating existing functionality with a technical and execution plan.
  • High-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
  • Thrives in ambiguity and can navigate from low-level language idioms to architecture of large systems.
  • Growth and impact trajectory demonstrated by gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
