About the role

Backend Engineer role focused on designing and building the distributed systems, storage infrastructure, and platform primitives that underpin Augur's sensor integration product. Work spans the full backend surface (stream processing, storage, API design, data pipelines, service architecture) in a Rust stack with Python at the boundaries, with ambitions of petabyte-scale data storage.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build distributed systems, storage infrastructure, and platform primitives for Augur's sensor integration product
  • Contribute across the full backend surface: stream processing and storage, API design, data pipelines, and service architecture
  • Own meaningful architectural decisions and reason through unfamiliar problem domains under real constraints
  • Build robust, well-abstracted systems that scale with increasing integration and customer base

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Rust; Python at API boundaries
  • Experience with Kafka, PostgreSQL/TimescaleDB/PostGIS, gRPC/protobuf, Kubernetes
  • Systems thinking for production systems with zero-downtime migrations and reliable services
  • Clean, well-structured code with good abstractions and strong code review culture
  • Ability to reason under uncertainty and make architectural decisions with incomplete information
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development and steering AI tooling towards high-quality output
  • Strong collaboration skills and cross-team communication
