About the role

Senior Backend Engineer on the Powered by Affirm (PBA) Growth team, building APIs and integration solutions for enterprise merchants and partners. Focused on delivering scalable backend systems, influencing design, and collaborating across product, design, and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering quarterly goals for the team and mentoring engineers through ambiguity.
  • Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics to ideate and trade-off technical decisions.
  • Proactively identifying and solving project, process, technology, or business issues.
  • Supporting operations and availability of team artifacts, creating and monitoring metrics, and participating in on-call efforts.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards.
  • Developing talent on the team through feedback and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple, extensible design.
  • Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base with a suite of tools and practices to do so safely.
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth with proactive feedback seeking from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
