About the role

Senior Software Engineer, Backend for the Powered by Affirm (PBA) Growth team. Focused on building APIs and solutions powering Enterprise Merchants and Partners, with an emphasis on reliable, scalable backend systems and collaboration across product, design, and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and supporting delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics throughout the product lifecycle, articulating technical constraints and partnering on risk/ trade-off decisions.
  • Identify and lead solutions to project, process, technology or business issues.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards, and advocating them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent on the team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for the delivery of a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
  • Proficiency in making significant changes in a large codebase and developing tools/practices to enable safe changes.
  • Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
