About the role
Staff Materials Research Scientist bridging generative chemistry discovery with external partner validation to develop PFAS-lean or PFAS-free substitutes for semiconductor process materials, combining generative ML, physics-based simulation, and experimental validation with co-development partners.
Responsibilities
- Own the partner validation loop. Serve as the primary scientific point of contact between the PFAS team and external co-development partners, translating partner problems into target specifications, constraints, and qualification criteria.
- Run the discovery workflow and rank candidates. Operate the generative chemistry discovery workflow; assess predicted compounds for plausibility and fit, and produce decision-ready shortlists for experimental validation.
- Apply semiconductor domain judgment. Evaluate generative and simulation outputs for directional/qualitative correctness and validate lead molecules against process constraints and EHS requirements.
- Close the experimental feedback loop. Translate partner validation results into actionable technical improvements for the team and ensure incorporation in successive design cycles.
- Align targets across internal teams. Collaborate with internal dataset, computational chemistry, ML, and generative-modeling teams to keep targets and rewards aligned with partner criteria.
Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with specialization in semiconductor process materials and/or fluorochemistry
- 6+ years of post-PhD experience in industrial/applied R&D developing or qualifying semiconductor process chemicals, including PFAS-lean/PFAS-free alternatives
- Working knowledge of semiconductor unit processes (lithography, etch, CMP, cleaning, thermal management) and related qualification specifications
- Ability to lead external partner engagements and translate between experiments and modeling
- Proficiency in Python to run and configure computational discovery workflows and collaborate with ML/physics teams
- Familiarity with generative molecular design, high-throughput virtual screening, or ML property prediction for molecules/materials
