About the role

Role building and owning an in-house business automation platform to make every team at interface.ai more productive by converting recurring processes into AI-powered workflows, collaborating across departments, and delivering measurable productivity improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Workflow discovery and prioritization. Map recurring work, bottlenecks, handoffs, and exceptions; establish baselines and prioritize roadmap by time saved, quality, impact, and effort.
  • The business automation platform. Build and evolve shared integrations, knowledge access, agent orchestration, and employee-facing tools; make automations reusable across teams.
  • Automation from start to finish. Connect intake, context gathering, execution, approvals, updates to business systems, and follow-through to verifiable outcomes.
  • Domain-specific judgment. Learn what a good result means in each department; translate rules, data dependencies, and edge cases into workflow logic with clear human review where needed.
  • The right tools for the job. Evaluate frontier models, agent frameworks, automation platforms, and SaaS capabilities; combine with custom engineering and evolve the stack.
  • Production quality and ownership. Own architecture, APIs, data models, prompts, evaluations, deployment, monitoring, retries, and recovery with appropriate access controls and auditability.
  • Adoption and measurable results. Pilot with teams, train users, document workflows, track adoption and metrics (hours saved, cycle time, error rates, cost) to guide expansion.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience at SWE II / Senior level with production systems you built and owned.
  • Strong applied AI/LLM engineering experience: tool use, context and retrieval, prompt design, evaluations, and agentic workflows; ability to judge where AI adds value.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and/or Python; ability to build integrations, services, and interfaces for employees.
  • Experience automating real workflows end-to-end across APIs, SaaS tools, and business systems, including exceptions, failures, and human handoffs.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar business domains quickly, ask precise questions, and work with both technical and nontechnical teams.
  • Product judgment and ownership; ship focused solutions and be accountable for adoption, reliability, and measurable improvement.
  • Daily fluency with frontier AI tools with concrete productivity benefits.
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field from a top-tier program; strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Self-directed and decisive; proactively identify problems, propose solutions, and close loops without reminders.
  • Based in San Francisco and able to work in the office five days a week with founders and team.
