About the role

Staff Software Engineer to lead technical strategy for scaling Peregrine's cloud footprint on the Platform team, driving performance, reliability, cost efficiency, security, and developer experience as Peregrine expands its cloud footprint and customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical direction for scaling Peregrine's cloud footprint and platform infrastructure
  • Drive initiatives to improve performance and reliability, reduce infrastructure cost, strengthen security, and improve developer experience
  • Mentor engineers, review designs, and foster a culture of ownership and operational excellence
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to identify infrastructure bottlenecks and set actionable roadmaps
  • Provide technical guidance to the traffic engineering team
  • Build tooling and processes to enable rapid region/customer environment standups, autoscaling, and right-sizing
  • Strengthen reliability and incident response for mission-critical services
  • Hardening network and platform security controls to meet compliance requirements
  • Build paved-road tooling for deployment, observability, and debugging by product teams
  • Partner with traffic engineering to shape routing and load balancing at scale

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience building and operating cloud infrastructure at scale with ownership of platform, networking, or traffic systems
  • Hands-on experience with major public cloud platforms, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code tooling
  • Working knowledge of traffic engineering concepts (load balancing, service mesh, autoscaling, CDN/edge routing, capacity planning)
  • Track record of reducing cloud costs through architecture and tooling without compromising reliability
  • Solid grounding in cloud and network security best practices, experience in compliance-driven environments
  • Strong instincts for developer experience: building tools, guardrails, and documentation
  • Comfort operating systems under production load, including on-call and incident response
  • Located in San Francisco and able to work in the office
