About the role

Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Card) at Affirm, remote in Spain, focusing on backend systems for card-related payments, including real-time transaction processing and post-transaction ledgering/reconciliation.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly team goals; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems; support delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics across the product lifecycle; articulate technical constraints and trade-offs.
  • Identify and drive resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
  • Create and monitor metrics; support on-call and 'keep the lights on' efforts.
  • Foster quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; advocate beyond the team via writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent on the team through feedback and leading by example.
  • On-Call Rotation - on-call rotation required.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale with technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience shipping front end applications.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with elegant, simple, extensible design.
  • Proficient at making significant changes in a large codebase; developed tools and practices to enable safe changes.
  • Owns personal growth; actively seeks feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with a global engineering team.
