About the role

Senior backend engineer focused on card payments and related systems, working remotely from Poland. Responsible for delivering quarterly team goals, collaborating across product, design and analytics, and improving code quality and on-call readiness in a global engineering setting.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team; lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems; ensure delivery support.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics to ideate, constrain technical scope, and make trade-off decisions.
  • Identify and advocate for project, process, technology or business issues; lead in solving them.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating/monitoring metrics; escalate when needed; support on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting/improving code review and design standards; advocate beyond the team via writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance; lead by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience shipping front end applications.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
  • Proven ability to make significant changes in a large code base and build tools/practices to do so safely.
  • Ownership mindset with proactive feedback-seeking from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
