About the role

Controller at Alchemy responsible for building and leading the end-to-end accounting function, managing a growing team, and delivering clear financial insights to leadership, the Board, and investors.

Responsibilities

  • Set the strategy and long-term direction for Alchemy’s accounting function, systems, and team.
  • Assume full responsibility for routine financial operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, and reporting, and manage multi-entity and multi-currency consolidations for global operations (including Romania).
  • Own timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
  • Ensure financial statements and accounting practices comply with US GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Architect and refine scalable accounting infrastructure by managing core financial technology stack (NetSuite, Orb, Zip, Ramp).
  • Develop policies, procedures, and controls promoting financial accuracy, efficiency, regulatory compliance, and risk management.
  • Oversee tax planning, compliance, and preparation in partnership with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
  • Lead relationships with third-party accounting firms, auditors, tax advisors, and other financial service providers.
  • Develop and present reporting for leaders, and partner with Finance on Board and investor reporting.
  • Distill complex financial information into clear recommendations for strategic decisions.
  • Lead technical accounting and strategic initiatives (revenue recognition, vendor/customer analysis, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, People, Engineering, and Product.
  • Lead, develop, and scale a high-performing accounting team.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Head of Accounting, Accounting Director, or similar role.
  • Public accounting experience paired with meaningful in-house operating experience at a high-growth technology company.
  • Strong ownership of accounting operations (GL, AP, AR, consolidations, financial reporting, close).
  • Deep technical accounting knowledge (US GAAP) and experience applying guidance to complex transactions.
  • Experience building scalable accounting systems, processes, policies, and internal controls.
  • Audit-readiness experience or ability to prepare for future audits (documentation, controls, reporting infrastructure, close discipline).
  • Strong business judgment to connect detailed accounting work to broader strategy.
  • Hands-on operating style in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional partnering and explaining financial topics to leadership, Board, investors.
  • People leadership experience, including leading, developing, and raising the bar for an accounting team.
