About the role

Dyna Robotics seeks a Staff Robotics Systems Integration Engineer to own hardware and systems health of the humanoid robot fleet, shaping hardware strategy and reliability as the company scales. This is an early, high-ownership role combining hardware, firmware, controls, and data, with hands-on responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap. Define and drive the hardware reliability and integration priorities based on fleet data and customer impact.
  • Shape hardware strategy. Turn field evidence into input for next-generation actuator selection, electrical architecture, thermal design, and serviceability, and advocate changes withMechanical, Electrical, and Firmware partners.
  • Set the standards. Establish qualification, validation, and release practices (EVT/DVT/PVT-style gates, incoming test, pre-merge validation).
  • Root-cause complex failures. Analyze actuator dropouts, encoder/calibration drift, thermal events, CAN bus faults, and control-stack bugs to separate hardware degradation from firmware/calibration/model-side causes.
  • Work hands-on with the hardware. Bench-test, rework, repair actuators/electronics, and design/build fixtures, jigs, brackets, and small modifications.
  • Build fleet health systems. Develop health metrics, alerting, calibration/characterization tooling with safety gates, and telemetry pipelines for bandwidth-constrained robots.
  • Raise the engineering bar. Review PRs across firmware, control code, and deployment config; write runbooks, SOPs, and incident reports.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in robotics, mechatronics, hardware test, or reliability engineering with significant fielded hardware experience.
  • Track record of owning technical direction: setting priorities, making hardware tradeoff calls, and influencing partner teams without formal authority.
  • Comfort with ambiguity; ability to define problems and plans proactively.
  • Hands-on instincts: soldering, measurement tools, and ability to tear down/repair/recommission electromechanical assemblies without waiting on another team.
  • Deep familiarity with actuator mechanical failures (backlash, wear, preload loss, end-stop damage) and design sense for reviews.
  • Working knowledge of robot control (impedance/torque-controlled actuators, controller state lifecycles) to identify hardware vs controls bugs.
  • Fluency with quasi-direct-drive actuators, encoders, torque/current telemetry, CAN, calibration/zeroing procedures.
  • Strong Python for data analysis and tooling; experience with time-series analysis, Datadog or similar, and PR-based workflows.
  • Rigorous evidence-based thinking; distinguish measured vs commanded data and correlation vs cause.

Benefits

  • Beginner-friendly yet challenging work environment with ownership over hardware strategy and fleet reliability.
