About the role

Intern role focused on supporting and shaping the launch and ongoing operations of Germany’s state-subsidised private pension product (AVD) at Upvest, including process design, day-to-day operations, error handling, and client-facing support.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day AVD operations: contract registration with the ZfA, contribution management, annual bonus application (AZ01), and payment reconciliation.
  • Help build the playbooks: document workflows, build step-by-step guides and error catalogues, keep them current as rules and systems evolve.
  • Support error handling and reconciliation: work through recurring error cases from the ZfA, ensure payments and records match, identify root causes.
  • Support our client teams: prepare clear, accurate answers for partners’ end-user questions about subsidies, transfers and payouts.
  • Spot what should be better: observe manual workarounds, identify bottlenecks or automation opportunities, provide feedback to improve processes.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in German (C1 or above) and comfortable working in English.
  • Student in Business, Economics, Finance, Law, or related field—or on a gap year between degrees.
  • Structured and precise, with attention to detail in pension-related numbers.
  • Curious about regulations and willing to read actual regulations to understand process design.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and asking questions in a brand-new product environment.
  • Confident with spreadsheets; prior exposure to financial services, operations or regulated environments is a bonus.
  • Available for a minimum of 4 months (6 preferred) and based in Berlin.
