Provider Data and Payer Directory Operations Lead (backed by Y Combinator, $5M+ ARR, $23M+ raised)
Hybrid (Remote)$0/hrFull-timePosted 2mo ago
About the role
Role focused on provider-data management, directory integrity, payer data operations, and growth for Legion Health’s insurance directory and patient access channel.
Responsibilities
- Own Legion’s provider-directory accuracy and growth metrics across every contracted payer and network, state, clinician, service location, specialty, and member-facing directory surface.
- Build and maintain the authoritative provider-data source of truth, including clinician legal and display names, NPIs, affiliations, taxonomy codes, licenses, service locations, telehealth eligibility, accepting-new-patients status, contact information, booking URLs, payer participation, last verification date, owner, status, and supporting evidence.
- Reconcile the source of truth against NPPES, CAQH, credentialing rosters, payer portals, third-party aggregators, and internal systems; define source precedence for every field.
- Create a complete baseline inventory and backlog for remediation, prioritizing missing/inactive/incorrect records and high-volume payer opportunities.
- Audit directory as a patient would (ZIP/state/plan/specialty/telehealth/availability/accepting-new-patients) and verify visibility and accuracy.
- Verify telehealth filters, map pins, language fields, appointment availability, and accepting-new-patients indicators across devices.
- Submit corrections through payer workflows and track submission dates, confirmation numbers, publication dates, and verification.
- Standardize naming conventions, contact details, taxonomy mappings, and URL structure; build validation rules and an exception log.
- Partner with payer-operations teams to improve search prominence via taxonomy, telepsychiatry terms, badges, and complete fields.
- Replace phone-only CTAs with Legion landing pages, self-scheduling links, or SMS when allowed by payer rules.
- Create and govern unique UTM-tagged links; maintain naming conventions and QA processes for attribution.
- Collaborate with Growth and Engineering to build payer/state-aware landing experiences and test CTAs, trust signals, and flows.
- Instrument and validate the directory funnel in analytics; maintain event definitions and investigate attribution gaps.
- Build weekly reports covering inventory, error-free listings, search visibility, corrections, clicks, intakes, bookings, and revenue.
- Quantify incremental patient volume and revenue from directory fixes; maintain an opportunity model for backlog prioritization.
- Establish monthly sweeps and automated monitoring to detect regressions and drift in rosters, URLs, status, and search results.
- Integrate provider launches/changes into a documented change-management workflow with clear owners and SLAs.
- Create payer contact maps, escalation paths, outreach templates, roster checklists, evidence standards, SOPs, and a decision log.
Qualifications
- 2+ years in provider-data management, payer or network operations, credentialing, revenue-cycle operations, healthcare data quality, growth operations, or related roles.
- Direct experience updating payer directories or network rosters via Availity, CAQH, HealthSmart, payer portals, delegated roster workflows, or third-party vendors.
- Strong knowledge of Type 1 and Type 2 NPIs, NPPES, CAQH ProView, taxonomy codes, specialties, group affiliations, service locations, telehealth designations, accepting-new-patients, and network participation.
- Experience diagnosing discrepancies across systems, documenting root causes, and verifying post-publication corrections.
- Advanced skills in Google Sheets/Excel (large CSVs, lookup, pivot tables, data validation, deduplication, normalization).
- Comfort with lightweight SQL, APIs, JSON/XML, SFTP roster files, scripts, or no-code automation to reduce repetitive work.
- Experience with UTM conventions, analytics (PostHog or similar), funnel reporting, and conversion-rate measurement.
- Ability to navigate portals, spreadsheets, email, phone, ticketing, and payer processes with precise evidence and follow-up.
