About the role

Staff Software Engineer focused on mobile app infrastructure at Affirm. Responsible for technical strategy, cross-team collaboration, operational excellence, and driving large mobile initiatives within the App Infrastructure team.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with critical, business-impacting projects
  • Collaborating across product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are well understood
  • Acting as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes
  • Owning team operations and availability, ensuring monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting for on-call reliability
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them externally
  • Developing talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Qualifications

  • 7+ years developer/architect experience with mobile applications
  • 4+ years of experience with React Native
  • Proficiency in Javascript/Typescript
  • Hands-on experience with React Native and Expo; authored or migrated native modules/components
  • Experience with complex state management in React apps; Redux Toolkit is a bonus
  • Experience with React Native SDK major updates and debugging JS↔native in New Architecture
  • Awareness of native OS release impacts on React Native apps
  • Experience with mobile testing and observability tooling (E2E frameworks like Maestro/Appium, crash reporting Sentry/Crashlytics, feature-flag platforms like Statsig/LaunchDarkly)
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code or similar) and ability to apply guardrails and maintain quality
  • Proven track record of leading teams to execute large projects and delivering major features or system components
  • Ability to work through ambiguity from low-level languages to large system architecture; strong documentation and communication skills
  • Growth and impact evidenced by iteration on feedback from engineers and cross-functional peers
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
