About the role

Staff Software Engineer role focused on owning and advancing Affirm's shared mobile app infrastructure, including design system, networking, observability, CI/CD, app releases, and developer tooling. Emphasizes ownership, technical strategy, collaboration across product teams, and mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborating across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and manage risks and trade-offs.
  • Acting as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Owning the team’s operations and availability with monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting for on-call readiness.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them beyond the team through writing and tech talks.
  • Developing talent on the team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience developing and architecting mobile applications; 4+ years using React Native
  • Proficient in Javascript/Typescript
  • Hands-on experience with React Native and Expo; authored or migrated native modules and components
  • Experience with complex state management in a React app; Redux Toolkit is a bonus
  • Experience with React Native SDK major updates and debugging across the JS↔native boundary under the New Architecture
  • Awareness of native OS releases and their impact on React Native apps
  • Experience with mobile testing and observability tooling (E2E frameworks like Maestro/Appium, crash reporting Sentry/Crashlytics, experimentation/feature-flagging platforms like Statsig/LaunchDarkly)
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development (e.g., Claude Code or comparable tooling) with good judgment on usage
  • Track record of driving a team to execute large projects
  • Experience delivering major features or system components with a clear technical and execution plan; ability to write high-quality code
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and understand large system architectures
  • Growth trajectory showing gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers
  • Strong verbal and written communication for global collaboration
  • Equivalent practical experience or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
