About the role

Core maintainer role for Genesis-World, building the software engineering backbone of a large, fast-moving simulation codebase. Focus on reliability, maintainability, tooling, APIs, and open-source collaboration across the platform.

Responsibilities

  • Make testing of a JIT-compiled engine scalable.
  • Make any bug reproducible. Dump and reload simulations bit-exactly, across machines, across backends, even when a single timestep of a batched simulation can already max out VRAM. Turn any failing run into a standalone reproduction script, automatically.
  • Make autodiff first-class. Drive requirements on Quadrants and iterate with the compiler team to solidify integration.
  • Edit scenes at frozen time. Enable instant authoring without full build cycles.
  • Make the simulator extensible. Create first-class plugins for physics solvers and interactive viewer backends, including Nyx; generalize sensors as a platform feature.
  • Give robots real actuation. Abstract motors and MIMO transmissions at the interface between users and the physics engine.
  • Make time a local variable. Enable independent stepping, adaptive timestepping, and per-solver rates.
  • Make scenes come alive. Implement physics-triggered events (e.g., microwave door, drill spin).
  • Keep the core sharp. Refactor legacy subsystems, strengthen typing, reduce Python overhead on hot paths, enable full scene serialization, telemetry and replay.

Qualifications

  • Strong Python engineering on large codebases: architecture, refactoring, typing, packaging, performance profiling (py-spy, Nsight, Xcode Instruments, RenderDoc).
  • Developer tooling, test infrastructure, or CI at scale.
  • Fluency with JIT compilation, code generation, or GPU computing stacks to reason about compilation caching, kernel dispatch, and startup cost (collaborate with Quadrants).
  • Debugging across Windows, Linux, macOS; x86 and arm64; CUDA, AMD, Apple Metal (and potentially Intel XPU via Vulkan).
  • Open-source triage: issue/PR handling, community communication.
