About the role

Software Engineering Intern position based in Europe (EMEA) for penultimate/final year PhD students, with opportunities in software development, site reliability, and research-oriented projects across Google’s product areas. Internship duration 13-17 weeks, full-time, starting May–July 2027, located in Switzerland or Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Research, conceive and develop software applications to extend and improve on Google's product offering.
  • Contribute to a wide variety of projects using natural language processing, artificial intelligence, data compression, machine learning, and search technologies.
  • Collaborate on scalability issues involving access to data and information.
  • Utilise exposure to large-scale production software troubleshooting.
  • Help maintain mission critical services.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related technical field in the EMEA region, and in your penultimate/final year of education.
  • Experience working with data structures or algorithms during coursework/projects, research, internships, or practical experience in school or work (e.g., open-source coding).
  • Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, Python, JavaScript, Go, etc.).
