Backend Engineer
About the role
PropelAuth is hiring a Backend Engineer to work on authentication/authorization APIs and infrastructure. Remote-first US-based role with 4–5 hours overlap with 9am–5pm PST. Focus on Rust (primary), with Python and TypeScript bits; build secure, scalable APIs and infrastructure on AWS.
Responsibilities
- Our backend is written in Rust with a few parts in Python and TypeScript
- Design understandable, performant, and secure APIs for authentication and authorization
- Design architecture for high availability - uptime and performance are critical
- Learn and support new auth standards like MCP and WebAuthn
- Be creative and support employee ideas in a small team
- Build client libraries/middleware in various languages/frameworks
- Help manage infrastructure with Packer and Pulumi on AWS
- Work with Support team to understand user needs
Qualifications
- 3+ years engineering experience
- Experience working independently on small teams
- Excited to build products that customers love
- Ability to move quickly, but carefully
- Experience with authentication or security appreciated but not required
