About the role

Senior Software Engineer role within Peregrine's Foundations team focused on reliability and performance of the data platform, ingesting, processing, and enriching large volumes of customer data at scale and low latency.

Responsibilities

  • Own well-scoped, meaningful projects improving reliability and performance of Peregrine's data platform (datastores, data pipelines, connection/authorization/notification layers)
  • Extend existing architectural patterns and propose new ones where needed
  • Contribute to rewrites and upgrades of core infrastructure (e.g., datastore storage format, framework upgrades)
  • Improve database connection-pooling to reduce outage risk
  • Build new pieces of the platform's authorization system
  • Reduce data-processing backlog latency from hours to under a second
  • Scale and tune search infrastructure to handle data growth
  • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis of production issues

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Experience with distributed systems or data-intensive services (data pipelines, relational and search datastores, message queues)
  • Experience taking projects from design through production rollout
  • Experience shipping and iterating on production-grade software (professionally or in open source)
  • Ability to write robust, well-tested, well-designed code deployed to users
  • Comfort navigating and contributing to large, established codebases
  • Comfort participating in incident response and resolving recurring failure patterns
  • Located in the San Francisco or New York area and open to working in office
