About the role

Dedalus Labs is hiring a Systems Engineer to build and optimize the core hardware/software stack for their persistent computers for AI agents. The role spans control plane development (creating, scheduling, and managing Machines) and the Rust-based virtual machine monitor (VMM), with potential to specialize in one area or span both. Collaboration with the CTO and engineers, ownership from experimental concept through deployment and operation, and a focus on performance, reliability, and secure interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Build the control plane. Implement the APIs and services that create, schedule, and manage Machines. Reason about concurrency, resource ownership, durable state, and recovery. Make behavior understandable when a request is canceled, a process dies, or part of an operation fails.
  • Improve the Rust VMM and runtime. Work on virtualization, guest memory, devices, and Linux I/O. Make machine startup, execution, snapshot, and recovery behavior correct and measurable.
  • Find and remove performance costs. Profile startup and request latency, syscall overhead, allocation, scheduling, networking, and storage. Follow database and I/O costs when they explain the bottleneck. Build a small reproduction, establish a baseline, and measure changes under representative load and failure conditions.
  • Design secure interfaces. Build services and communication paths with clear ownership and explicit trust boundaries. Experience with HTTP servers, interprocess communication, network protocols, and cross-privilege interactions. Identify and verify fixes for security problems.

Qualifications

  • For control-plane work, strong service implementation in Go, Rust, or a comparable systems language. For VMM work, hands-on Rust and low-level systems experience. Ability to explain choices around types, memory, ownership, concurrency, and abstractions.
  • Recent hands-on work you can explain; ability to learn, adapt, and ship; willingness to take feedback and iterate.

Skills

Required:Linux internalsGoRustConcurrency and systems design
Nice to have:Security and threat modeling

Benefits

  • Relocation support available
  • Visa sponsorship for exceptional talents
  • Competitive salary, bonus, and meaningful equity
  • Meals and office benefits included
