Software Engineer, Infrastructure & Performance
About the role
Dedalus Labs is hiring an infrastructure engineer to accelerate development speed and reliability for their AI-focused platform. The role centers on optimizing build/test/CI pipelines, building scalable internal platforms, and improving delivery and observability across production systems. You will work closely with the CTO and engineers to design and operate fast, reliable infrastructure, including in-house tooling and hardware interaction in a San Francisco-based, in-person setting.
Responsibilities
- Make the development loop faster by profiling builds, tests, CI queues, artifact transfers, and local workflows; identify bottlenecks and measure improvements.
- Build platforms and APIs to support multiple internal products; design controllers, CLIs, and services with attention to resource lifecycles, concurrency, cancellation, permissions, and failure reporting.
- Improve CI/CD, GitOps, environment provisioning, staging, production rollout, and recovery; ensure traceability from source changes to running software with useful metrics, logs, and traces.
- Build and operate fast infrastructure including Linux servers, containers, VMs, and Kubernetes; optimize capacity, networking, load balancing, resource limits, observability, and recovery.
- Work with hardware in a controlled homelab to test and debug on real machines and networks; assist with provisioning and maintaining machines, configuring networking, and building test infrastructure.
Qualifications
- Strong software engineering skills with infrastructure experience used by others
- Depth in Go, Rust, C++, or another systems language; practical Linux debugging; thoughtful API design
- Experience with Build systems, CI/CD, GitOps, Kubernetes, observability, and infrastructure as code; familiarity with Terraform is useful
- Experience scaling production services to 100,000+ requests per second or equivalent demanding workload; ability to explain traffic, load distribution, hardware/resource limits, latency, and error rates
- Hands-on hardware/Networking experience a plus (homelab, assembly, provisioning, networking, switches, routing, VLANs)
- Willingness to work in-person in San Francisco; visa sponsorship available
