About the role

Backend software engineer role focused on money movement, bank data integration, and merchant data within Affirm Card. Remote-US position with emphasis on building scalable, reliable money movement systems and card ledger infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and ensuring support during delivery.
  • Collaborate with product management, design & analytics across the product lifecycle by ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on risk-aware decisions.
  • Proactively identify and lead solutions to project, process, technology, or business issues.
  • Support operations and availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting keep-the-lights-on and on-call efforts.
  • Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating beyond the team via writing and tech talks.
  • Develop talent on the team by providing feedback and guidance, and leading by example.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
  • Track record of developing highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
  • Experience defining a technical plan for delivering a significant feature or system component with an elegant, simple and extensible design.
  • Ability to write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
  • Proficient at making significant changes in a large code base with tools and practices enabling safe evolution.
  • Demonstrated ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
  • Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
