About the role

Staff backend engineer responsible for strategy, architecture, and delivery of Identity services for international markets, focusing on data management, KYC, decisioning, and scalable, compliant systems to enable global expansion.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with business-impacting projects.
  • Collaborating across product management, design & analytics to ensure technical sustainability and understood risks and trade-offs.
  • Acting as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
  • Owning the team’s operations and availability, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting to support on-call efforts.
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and promoting them externally through writing and tech talks.
  • Developing talent by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example.
  • Participating in On-Call Rotation as a requirement.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
  • Extensive experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
  • Proven track record delivering major features or system components with a clear technical and execution plan.
  • Ability to operate across levels from low-level language idioms to system architecture in large-scale environments.
  • Growth mindset with demonstrated ability to gather and act on feedback from engineers and cross-functional peers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
