About the role

Backend leadership role focusing on Identity services for international markets, shaping technical strategy, architecture, and operations to enable Affirm’s global expansion while maintaining compliance and system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Setting technical strategy for the team on a year-long time scale and aligning it with business-impacting projects
  • Collaborating across product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood
  • Acting as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes
  • Owning the team’s operations and availability with proper monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting to support reliability and on-call efforts
  • Fostering a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards and evangelizing them beyond the team
  • Developing talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin
  • Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes
  • Experience delivering major features, components, or deprecating functionality with a clear technical and execution plan
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and understand architecture from low-level details to system-wide design
  • Proven growth and impact trajectory with capability to gather and iterate on feedback from peers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team
