About the role
Lead the Data Center Engineering Operations to maintain electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems in AWS data centers; act as the primary technical resource for facility operations, oversee maintenance, incident response, and coordination with vendors and internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues. Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems such as switchgear, generators, UPS, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, air handlers, and building monitoring systems.
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facilities within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
- Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and collaborate with Facility Manager to set team culture.
- Create and deploy new standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
- Assist in building out new facilities and participate in projects to increase facility efficiency.
- Occasionally work outside normal business hours for routine maintenance and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.
- Communicate complex technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Coordinate projects with IT managers and business leaders to manage capacity and optimize safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Ensure safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and Amazon staff.
- Establish building performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on operations and maintenance.
- Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and other administrative tools for day-to-day tasks.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of electrical and mechanical facilities maintenance, or 3+ years electrical plus 2+ years mechanical facilities maintenance experience
- Experience reading and writing procedures, technical documents, and engineering drawings
- 3+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience
