About the role
Lead the Detection & Response team to transform security operations into a proactive threat management engine, focusing on automation, threat hunting, and capability building across Lambda's multi-cloud and bare metal infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Build, hire, and lead a high-performing Detection & Response team with 24/7 operational excellence
- Define team processes, culture, and operating rhythms to balance agility and security discipline
- Conduct regular one-on-ones and develop clear career paths for engineers
- Drive outcomes by prioritizing projects and fostering a blameless post-incident culture
- Define and implement threat management frameworks and automation standards
- Architect incident response processes, escalation frameworks, and triage protocols
- Guide technology choices and pioneer AI-powered detection using LLMs
- Create data-driven insights to guide investments in preventative controls
- Partner with Product and Platform engineering to evolve detection and response capabilities
- Lead cross-functional collaboration during critical events and report executive impact
- Drive weekly operations reviews and define repeatable incident-driven processes
- Define sustainable on-call rotations and 24/7 coverage without burnout
- Establish a 6-month strategic roadmap for D&R capabilities with measurable outcomes
Qualifications
- 10+ years of security experience with 5+ years leading technical teams
- Proven ability to define and build security programs from the ground up
- Excellence at building automation-first security programs
- Clear understanding of securing a cloud infrastructure provider
- Experience building sustainable team cultures for long-term success
- Strong judgment in security response and business impact
- Ability to translate technical work into executive communications and metrics
- Thrives in high-ambiguity environments with startup pace
