About the role

Director responsible for leading the build-out of forecasting and asset optimisation analytics in a new East Asia market, covering forecasting price, generation and demand outturns, with initial pilot projects expanding to national scale.

Responsibilities

  • Research fundamental data feeds
  • Identify and execute contracts with meteorology providers
  • Build generation forecasts for renewable plants (solar, wind, hydro)
  • Build system demand forecasts (demand, generation, interconnection)
  • Combine volume forecasts to generate price forecasts (day-ahead and real time)
  • Ensure understanding of real-time price formulae and replicate in processes
  • Lead recruitment and build a lean, high-quality team
  • Design modular forecasting engine adaptable to provincial market rules, ancillary services, and price signals
  • Set and communicate strategic direction for the software
  • Utilise LLM models for development (potential partnership with Anthropic)
  • Ensure compliance with local data security standards
  • Propose and implement the tech stack (likely AliCloud)
  • Model Octopus culture and collaborate with internal and partner teams

Qualifications

  • Experience building and leading high performing data science and analytics teams
  • Experience with sophisticated machine learning techniques
  • Proficiency with Python and SQL (full stack to be defined)
  • Experience managing complex data pipelines and visualization suites
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to relocate to East Asia
  • Prior experience in energy markets preferred
  • English and Mandarin advantageous but not essential
